Sarah Allen has drummed her way through a vast range of musical situations,
performing and recording throughout the U.S. and in Europe and Asia with jazz, pop, folk,
theatrical, klezmer and classical ensembles, including the FRED SIMON QUARTET/TRIO,
Steppenwof Studio Theater, MAXWELL STREET KLEZMER BAND, JIM TRUE, RON
HAWKING “HIS WAY”, THE ARETHA FRANKLIN ORCHESTRA, the CHICAGO JAZZ
ENSEMBLE, and most recently at Chicago Shakespeare Theatre.
Ms. Allen was drummer in the band at BLUE MAN GROUP in Chicago for three years.
She is timpanist of the NORTHBROOK SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, conducted by Lawrence
Rapchak. She was a dancing and drumming member of Chicago’s critically acclaimed
JELLYEYE DRUM THEATER for two years and is principal percussionist with the CHICAGO
JAZZ PHILHARMONIC led by Orbert Davis.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from Northern Illinois University. Recent
recordings include ONE VOICE with Doug Lofstrom and The New Quartet; DREAMHOUSE
with Fred Simon, and RISE UP! with Bobby Conn.
